Eager helper

Juniper came for supper and a sleepover today. She was eager to help grampa with the sculpting and painting of the toad sign. As always, she asked endless questions during our labour, learning not just the hows but also the whys of what we do. We worked for about an hour mixing the epoxy and pushing it onto the sculpture. Then came the fun part of adding toad’s skin texture using crumpled tin foil. Lastly, we made scores of little balls of sculpting epoxy and gently pressed them onto the textured surface to make warts. With the sculpting complete, we did some painting until it was time to head into the house for the night. Juniper is a pleasure to work with as she listens carefully to the instructions and is eager to do things perfectly. I appreciate her help!

Toad - front side

Over the last week, I’ve been working on my entry for the Sign Invitational in my spare time, and it is beginning to take shape. The Viking toad is pretty much sculpted on the front side. I really enjoyed the sculpting process thus far and am looking forward to beginning the paint soon. Stay tuned…

Garden centrepiece

The Copper Crown’s private garden has come a long way in the last few weeks. The sculpted concrete work is now finished with two coats of paint. One more blend coat will make it ready for the final glazes. The pool under the drawbridge was also completed today. The last project of the work week was to hang the Copper Crown crest over the fireplace. Next week, the crew will finish the painting and build the forms for the patio sidewalks. The concrete is ordered for the latter part of the month, as it needs to be scheduled for when no guests are enjoying the other suites. Becke is already busy gathering a wonderful collection of plants and shrubs, which will transform it into a beautiful oasis for guests to enjoy.
